This is Not My Beautiful Town
David Byrne is in SF. I'm going to go wonder around The Mission until I casually run into him and make it seem like an accident.

My Place
A few rooms of my palatial estate have already been documented, but some of you nonlocals have requested more pics of the apt. Here then: some friends were kind enough to take a few shots the other day.

Living Room
Just renewed my lease for another year. Click on that there pic — Lorp’s fancy lens makes the living room look giant. Flashback: here’s a post from the day I found my home in Oakeley.

Burning Rubber
Moments ago, I heard a blood-curdling screech just outside my window. Looking out, I witnessed this BMW inscribe with great speed a zero into the asphalt. The burning tires produced a sizable cloud of charcoal smoke that rose over the rooftops across the street. After a couple breakneck spins, the driver then pulled gently to the curb, got out of the car, and walked casually into his home.
That’s just how we roll on Alcatraz Ave.

Local Rag Points and Laughs at Type Nerds
The SF Weekly reviews our film fest. Ok, it’s not really mockery — fairly positive even. There’s mention of a Stephen Coles in there. Odd quote with which to close the article, but I admittedly relish the attention in any form.

Furnishing the Homeland, Part 5:
Object Fantasies
Cado Rosewood Wall SystemSite down! Boo! — Just incredible. This would transform any room and the owner would transcend time and space.- Loewy Stool and Table — EQ3 has the Nest Storage Bench, but I wish they’d try harder.
- Vision 2000 Stereo Equipment — A system worthy of DJ Jesse Walker. And this.
- Panasonic Space Ship Television
- Grasshopper Chair [+] [+]
- Contour Lounge Chair [+] [+] and Rocker by Vladimir Kagan
- Bianca Sofa [+] by Paul Mathieu
- Billy Kirk Card Case
- Hellerware by Massimo & Lela Vignelli — Already living this fantasy. I inherited a set of red rounded square plates from Mom and Dad or Grandma or someone. Each features a nifty built-in well for the mugs.
- Marimekko Wallpaper by Katsuji Wakisaka — Not so related but I had to say we had the car bedding when we were kids. Great to finally know the designer’s name. Darn, can’t find my sisters’ bathroom wallpaper at that expansive site, but it looked a lot like this.

Furnishing the Homeland, Part 4:
Nice Sofas That Might Fit Through My Door
As always, click the pics to biggify. I am leaning toward the André, but the Goetz would go really well with my blesséd Eames. Here’s the beauty that didn’t make it through my apartment’s entrance (a doorway that is sized for the smaller race of humans that lived on this planet in the ’20s).
In other news: this sofa bed is pretty slick — almost too slick. Not only does the back fold down, but the arms swing around to become foot rests. Don’t believe it? See the video.
Update:
Went to see the Ravel at Scandinavian Designs today. Strangely, it only comes in one color, and you’re lookin’ at it. Moss green just won’t do with my rug. That’s a drag — it’s only $695.10:10 PM in Mindless Consumerism, The Berkeley Report | Permalink | Comments (17)

Furnishing the Homeland, Pt. 3:
Marooned
The fun of shopping for furniture on craigslist is that something new pops up every few hours.
The trouble with shopping for sofas on craigslist is that everything is maroon or burgundy or wine or rose.
By the way kids, there’s now a craigslist in SLC! Click and discover the power of the internet again for the first time. First job posting is up: tame troubled teens by marching them through wilderness!

Meeting Mary
It is shamefully late, and probably ineffective, but I just posted a shot-in-the-dark at finding the gal I met last week on the subway.

Stool Sample
The stools arrived! One red, one silver. Now I need a tall cafe table with foot rest to join them.

Furnishing the Homeland, Pt. 1
Plan of Attack
Somehow, most of the furniture I used to own disappeared while I was in the frozen north. I weeped over the loss of my Chinese table until Steph (glorious moving pal) reminded me that it was nice, but I probably shouldn't cry about furniture. So I'm looking at the bright side: I have a beautiful empty apartment waiting to be filled and this time I can be a little more choosy and organized about it.
I'm attempting the West Elm deep, dark brown Asian wood James Do look for the living room. Of course, I'm not making the dough to swing the Do. Therefore, just installed: coffee table and floor lamp from the inevitable Ikea. Jen and James kindly chauffeured me to all the nice Berkeley shops and I saw lovely things, but when it comes down to choosing between a $500 or $129 table, it's hard to avoid Ikea.
Next big buy is the sofa. If I were $3000 richer and had an additional 500 sq. feet of space, it would be this and this or this.
Meanwhile, these shiznitty lamps are affordable enough to consider.

A Bed In Berkeley
Ladies and gentlemen: I am pleased to announce I will not be walking the streets upon my arrival east of San Fran Bay. An apartment is secured! It’s a one-bedroom in a two-story mission-style building from the ’20s. Hardwood floors. Windows abound. Courtyard. Four blocks from BART. Start planning your visits now, folks — my days of one-room living are over.
